The Place Hotel was once a prominent Manchester cotton warehouse, standing in the gateway to Manchester’s thriving and bustling city centre (as it still is today).
Every day we walk through the doors we feel the rich history of this building and admire its elegant construction.

Our Beautiful Hotel
As a Grade II listed hotel it means the building you are staying in has a special significance beyond its mere locality and every effort should be made to preserve it for future generations.
Originally, a seven-storey railway warehouse, the initial construction was created in 1867 for a unique set of circumstances during the peak of Manchester’s prominence as the world’s number one centre for the cloth trade.
The building, one of the oldest in Manchester, achieved listed status in 1998 around the time it was transformed into the Place Hotel, English Heritage acknowledging its important cultural and architectural legacy.
The hotel’s distinctive features include its impressively crafted iron, stone and brick work, including the original Victorian railings manning the balconies, barrel ceilings, the stupendous façade, in many ways pre-dating Art Deco, and the hotel’s impressive stone steps; but more than anything it is the large, spacious public area which marks out the Place Hotel as a unique and special hotel.
The Place Hotel’s interior in Victorian times was dominated by massive cast iron columns supporting large riveted wrought iron beams. This huge, flexible and cavernous construction gave uninterrupted floor space for the movement of cloth.
The cast iron columns and other impressive features remain today, including iron girders and the tastefully retained Romanesque window arches, but instead of vast warehouse flooring in the round the seven storeys now hold 107 loft apartments, supporting a spectacular atrium where cranes once would have dangled their loads.
Simultaneously as you walk back in time into the muscular shell of this historic building you will experience the very best of modern, sophisticated, minimalist design.
Funky light fittings, comfortable sofas and elegant coffee tables fuse with the red brick and iron work into an almost decadent effect, while at the same time remaining graceful, understated and charming.
The response from visitors tells us what a tasteful conversion into a loft style designer hotel this has been. The Place Hotel definitely offers a very contemporary take on a traditional 4-star Manchester hotel.

The sense of space and charm at the Place Apartment Hotel is reminiscent of some of the most luxurious hotels in the world; but the industrial red brick and iron columns contribute to a charm which is distinctly Mancunian and boutique in style.
